We depart for San Diego late this afternoon. Our clients are set to arrive tomorrow. The weather looks to be glorious for the next stretch of days — partly sunny and highs in the upper-70s / low-80s. Perhaps a bit of a dip midweek into the 60s but with the Pacific and marine layers to contend with it’s always so hard to tell.

I can’t wait to get to the hotel tonight and see how my bike fared in its long trip across the country courtesy Fedex. This is the year I got it right with the bike box dimensions and costs. Seriously, though, I think a breakaway or SS-coupler bike is in order. I hesitate to tally up all of the expenses shipping my favorite GT across the continent — better left unknown.

I’m very excited this trip… lot’s of new things to explore. The Popotla fishing village, La Guerrerense, and a trip into the desert high plain toward Ojos Negros. I also look forward to old favorites: La Fonda, Gloria’s in Erendira and the drop down into San Tomas.

Stay tuned!

It's like Tuscany down there. It's amazing.

“There are people there who have been doing great food for 35 years, and there are a bunch of young chefs who have traveled the world who’ve come home and decided, ‘Let’s move Mexican food forward.’ It’s like Tuscany down there. It’s amazing. I was there for eight days and didn’t see a single American. Traveled around wine country there — it’s awesome. It’s the great undiscovered wonderland. Rolling hills, grape arbors and great chefs cooking very forward, very subtle, very local, very good food.

“They’ve thought, ‘We need to reinvent ourselves. We’re not going to be the whorehouse for frat boys anymore.’ And something amazing’s happening.”
